Abstract:

The plants of the genus Gerbera (Compositae) are the ornamentally, medicinally, and economically important plants, and rich in coumarins, especially, the characteristic 4-hydroxy-5-methylcoumarin derivatives, which derived from the acetate-malonate pathway. Thus, this review focus on the biosynthetic pathway, chemical structure classifications, chemical structures, and bioactivities of 4-hydroxy-5-methylcoumarin derivatives that derived from the acetate-malonate pathway from the Gerbera plants, providing a solid basis for the further research and development of this genus.

Key words: Gerbera, 4-hydroxy-5-methylcoumarin, acetate-malonate pathway, chemical constituents, bioactivities
