Abstract:

This dataset was derived from a randomized controlled clinical trial conducted in the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Shenlingbaizhu powder in the treatment of elderly patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) of lung-spleen qi deficiency combined with sarcopenia based on the theory of “Homotherapy for Heteropathy” in traditional Chinese medicine. A total of 80 patients were enrolled in the study. Finally, 75 patients completed the whole study, and the dropout rate was less than 10%. The dataset included complete longitudinal observation data at five assessment time points (baseline, end of treatment, and 3, 6, and 9 months of follow-up), as well as pulmonary function indexes (FVC, FEV1, FEV1%pred, FEV1/FVC), sarcopenia-related indexes (ASMI, grip strength, 6-meter walking speed), and scale scores (mMRC, CAT, SPPB). Pulmonary function tests were performed in the outpatient department of Respiratory Medicine, Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass index was performed by bioelectrical impedance analysis. All assessments were performed by trained professionals. This dataset completely reflects the whole process of clinical intervention in COPD patients with sarcopenia, which can provide high-quality data resources for the study of TCM treatment of comorbidities, the exploration of longitudinal follow-up methodology, the verification of the theory of treating different diseases together, and the subsequent development of machine learning prediction models.
