  1. The volatile oils were extracted from petals and stamens of Crocus sativus by steam distillation. The chemical compounds were separated and identified by capillary GC-MS method. The relative content of each component was calculated by area normalization. Sixteen compounds were identified from petals of C. sativus. The main components were n-hexacosane (11.60%), n-pentadecane (11.31%), palmitic acid methyl ester (10.82%), oleic acid methyl ester (10.35%), 2,4-ditertiary butyl phenol (9.63%), linoleic acid methyl ester (7.18%) and safranal (5.66%). Twenty compounds were identified from stamens of C. sativus. The main components were oleic acid methyl ester (30.83%), linoleic acid methyl ester (24.12%), cyclohexanol (16.80%), stearic acid methyl ester (12.88%), palmitic acid methyl ester (8.97%), eicosanoic acid methyl ester (1.18%) and benzothiazole (1.01%).
