Abstract:

There are about 400 species of genus Corydalis plants (Papaveraceae) all over the world, which are mainly distributed in northern Temperate Regions and southern Africa. The plants of the genus Corydalis were used as folk medicines for thousands of years in China. Corydalis species, sweet and cold, are mostly used as whole herbs. They have the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, and are often used to treat the symptoms of cold and fever, sore abscess, ulceration and other diseases. Modern pharmacological researches have shown that Corydalis plants have various pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-bacterial, and anti-tumor effects. The alkaloids constituents of this genus, which were widely studied by many scholars worldwide, are usually considered to be the main pharmacological activities components. However, a large number of non-alkaloid ingredients such as flavonoids, coumarins, lignin, terpenes, steroids, organic acids and other types of chemical components were also discovered. Considering the characteristic of the overall effect of Chinese medicine, it is reasonable to think that non-alkaloid components are also worthy of in-depth exploration. This article mainly summarizes the chemical components and pharmacological activities of non-alkaloids in the genus Corydalis. By systematic analysis and summary of the reported literature, it may lay a foundation for the research of non-alkaloids in this genus and their comprehensive medicinal value utilization.
