Abstract:

To better develop the application of Camellia ′High Fragrance′,different flower forms (semidouble-form,anemone-form and peony-form types) at their full blooming stage and floral organs (stamens, inner petals, and outer petals) was used as experimental material for this study.Headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) was employed to detect the volatile compounds, aming to explore the differences in volatilecomponents and their contents among the studied materials. The results showed that a total of 41 volatile compounds were identified in the flowers of different floral forms, with 23 characteristic aroma components having an odor activity value (OAV) greater than 1;38,35,and 30 volatile compounds (OAV>1) were identified in the semidouble, anemone, and peony-form respectively, with 22,16,and 18 characteristic aroma components correspondingly to each;the peony-form exhibited the highest total aroma content (7 961.37 μg/kg) among the three studied forms.A total of 48 volatile compounds were identified in different floral organs, with 23 characteristic aroma components (OAV>1),the stamens exhibited the highest aroma content (15 422.05 μg/kg) among different organs.Furthermore,35,36,and 36 volatile compounds were identified in the stamens, inner petals, and outer petals respectively, with 18,16,and 15 of them being characteristic aroma components.Phenylethanol has been identified as the primary aroma compound in Camellia ′High Fragrance′,whereas eugenol, geranylacetone, butyl butyrate, and methyl decanoate may be the key differential aroma components among the three floral forms. In general, the total content of characteristic aroma components in Camellia ′High Fragrance′ followed the trend of peony-form>semidouble-form>anemone-form,and the stamens played an important role in contributing to the aroma components and their contents, which provides valuable information for the utilization of Camellia ′High Fragrance′.
