Abstract: Scrophularia species,widely distributed in the world,have been used as folk remedies for some medical treatment including tumours, parasitic diseases and inflammatory affections.The iridoid glycosides are the main and rich classes of substances. Now,there are nearly 80 iridoid compositions isolated and identified from these species,which have been shown antiinflammatory, neuroprotective,hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective, immuno-modulator,antiprotozoal,antibacterial activities according to the study of pharmacology.This review summarizes the iridoids and their biological activity associated with the species,as refer to their future investigation.
