Abstract:

Based on the theory of "homotherapy for heteropathy", this study explored the dual efficacy of Ligusticum chuanxiong - Gastrodia elata herb pair in the treatment of vascular dementia (VaD) and hypertension. In the study, the VaD model was established by the 2-VO method, and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were used as the hypertension model. Behavioral, histological and biochemical tests were carried out, including the Morris water maze test, HE staining and Western blot analysis of the expression of related inflammatory factors (such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2)). The results showed that the high-dose herb pair significantly improved cerebral blood flow, reduced blood pressure and alleviated vascular endothelial injury. Meanwhile, it also decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory factors such as TNF-α and PTGS2. The study demonstrated the effectiveness of the L. chuanxiong-G. elata herb pair in the treatment of these two diseases and proved the feasibility of the "homotherapy for heteropathy" strategy.
