Abstract:

This study investigates the feasibility of using Camellia oleifera branch and leaf substrate as a substitute for peat in the propagation of cuttings of Ligustrum japonicum ‘Howardii’.Using C.oleifera branches and leaves as raw material,high-temperature aerobic fermentation treatments were carried out with the addition of quicklime, brown sugar and microbial agents, urea and microbial agents, and Pleurotus sapidus fungal residues and microbial agents, respectively.Using a substrate with the ratio of peat∶perlite∶rice husk∶plant bottle∶coconut coir = 35∶20∶20∶10∶15 (V/V) as the control, the fermentation products of C.oleifera branches and leaves were as a substitute for peat in the L.japonicum cuttings rearing test after different treatments. The results showed that C.oleifera branches and leaves could effectively replace peat as a substrate for growing cuttings after different treatments. With comprehensive consideration of various growth indices and physicochemical properties of the substrate,it is recommended to add 20% (instead of 57.14% peat) of the fermentation product of C.oleifera branches and leaves with brown sugar and microbial agent into the substrate for growing cuttings of L.japonicum.
