The rhizomes of Iris species,such as Iris pallida,serve as significant sources for the extraction of essential oils.Besides their aromatic component,irones,these rhizomes are abundant in secondary metabolites such as fatty acids,flavonoids,and phenols.These compounds are extensively utilized in the creation of perfumes,cosmetics,food products,and pharmaceuticals.This article reviews the latest research progress concerning the preparation techniques,influencing factors,functional constituents,and utilization of Iris essential oil.It also points out the main issues currently faced and proposes relevant suggestions,aiming to provide a reference for the research and development of Iris for fragrance use.
