Abstract:

Ischemic stroke is a neurological disorder caused by cerebral vascular obstruction leading to insufficient blood supply to the brain. It has a complex pathogenesis,a narrow therapeutic time window, and is one of the leading causes of disability and death worldwide.Astrocytes,as key homeostatic cells in the central nervous system, rapidly undergo proliferation and activation after ischemia, participating in various pathological processes including neuroinflammation,excitotoxicity,blood-brain barrier dysfunction, autophagy, energy metabolism disorders, and iron metabolism imbalance. These processes play critical roles in ischemia-induced neuronal injury.Recent studies have shown that flavonoids from traditional Chinese medicine exhibit significant neuroprotective potential, possibly through modulation of astrocyte function. This review focuses on the roles and effects of astrocytes in ischemic brain injury and systematically discusses the potential mechanisms by which flavonoids exert neuroprotective effects via regulation of related signaling pathways, aiming to provide theoretical support and novel perspectives for the clinical treatment and experimental research of ischemic stroke.
