Vascular dementia (VaD) is a clinical syndrome caused by cerebrovascular disease.Traditional Chinese medicine believes that VaD is related to the stagnation of Xuanfu and the deficiency of the five internal organs.Modern medicine mainly associates VaD with mechanisms such as cerebral small vessel disease,atherosclerosis,and genetic genes.In recent years,the methods of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of VaD,including traditional Chinese medicine compound,external treatment and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment,have shown increasing efficacy.This article provides a theoretical basis for the clinical treatment of VaD by summarizing the regulatory mechanisms of these treatment methods.
