Abstract: The antioxidant activity of different extracts of Smilax glabra leave and seed were investigated by DPPH,ABTS,FRAP,H2O2-induced red blood hemolysis assays and TBA method for determining the content of MDA in liver and kidney tissue in vitro. BHA was used as the positive control. The results showed that,in DPPH assays, the radical scavenging activity of S.glabra leave ethyl acetate extract (IC50=21.15±2.90 μg/mL) were good. The activity of anti-hemolysis and MDA inhibition in liver and kidney tissue of S.glabra leave ethyl acetate extract (IC50=21.93±0.96,1.34±0.14,7.69±1.88 μg/mL,respectively) were the higher than that of other extracts of S.glabra leave and seed. However, the best effect of ABTS radical scavenging activity and Trolox equivalent were the n-butanol extracts of S.glabra leave (ABTS IC50=2.29±0.19 μg/μL,and the value of Trolox equivalent was 3768.44±16.93 μmol/g).These results showed that both leave and seed of S.glabra had antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of S.glabra leave was higher than that of seed.It can be used as a potential antioxidant agent in food industry.
