Abstract: To establish a method for the determination of heavy metals and trace elements in Radix Codonopsis by microwave digestion-ICP-AES,study the effects of sulfur fumigation on the heavy metals and trace elements in Radix Codonopsis.Contents of heavy metals (Cu,Cd,Pb,Hg,As) and trace elements (Al,Cr,Fe,Mg,Zn,P,K,Ca) in Radix Codonopsis were determined by ICP-AES after digestion with nitric acid. The results showed that Cd,Pb and As increased by 63.51%,35.47% and 108.63% in sulfur-fumigated Radix Codonopsis. The Fe and K decreased by 36.64% and 20.48% in sulfur-fumigated Radix Codonopsis. To sum up,the content of heavy metals and trace elements in Radix Codonopsis after sulfur fumigation changed significantly.we should strengthen the detection so as to control the quality and ensure the safety of Radix Codonopsis.
