Abstract: Propolis is a gelatinous substance with aromatic odor.It is a mixture of resin collected by Apis mellifera from plant shoots or trunk lesions,mandibular gland secretions and beeswax.Propolis has complex chemical compositions and extensive biological activities,one of which is improving wound healing discovered long time ago.With new advances in research,the effect of propolis on wound healing has gradually come to focus.In this article,recent advance in understanding propolis’ effect on wound (burn) healing as well as its probable mechanism,covering re-epithelization,granulation formation,wound contraction and extracellular matrix generation were reviewed.In addition,future research directions were suggested for colleagues in the field.
