Protective Effects of Areca catechu Nut Extract and Its Different Polar Fractions on Damaged SH-SY5Y Cells Induced by H2O2

Abstract

Abstract: Areca catechu nut extract and its different polar fractions were obtained using 70% ethanol extraction and solvent partition.The model of oxidative stress was established based on 200 μmol/L hydrogen peroxide injury of SH-SY5Y cell and cell viability was measured by MTT assay.Protective effects of all the samples on damaged SH-SY5Y cells induced by H₂O₂ were evaluated.The research results showed that ethyl acetate,n-butanol and water extracts have obvious protective effect except for petroleum ether part.Furthermore,(2S,3R)-ent-catechin isolated from EtOAc fraction showed higher antioxidant activity,its in vivo biological activity and mechanism need to be further studied.
