Abstract: To study the antibacterial effect of combination of the stem and leave of Scutellaria baicalensis (SLSB) and Ampelopsis grossedentata (AG) aginst Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae, the micro broth dilution method was used to detect their MIC values. The time-bactericidal curves of SLSB and AG against S.aureus and S.dysenteriae were established as well.A checkerboard method and the fractional inhibitory concentration index (FIC index) were used to evaluate the interaction between SLSB and AG.The results showed that the MIC values of SLSB and AG against S.aureus were 1 mg/mL and 0.25 mg/mL,while against S.dysenteriae were 4 mg/mL and 0.50 mg/mL,respectively.And the FIC indices of combined SLSB and AG,0.750 for S.aureus and 0.625 for S.dysenteriae, revealed their additive interaction against the tested bacterials. The present experimental results thus indicated the potential to increase the antibacterial efficacy of SLSB by rational combination strategy, providing a practical way for the rational utilization of SLSB resource.
